Why a Heated Sports Field?
Heated sports fields have many benefits that help offset initial installation costs and ongoing operation costs. First and foremost are player safety and performance, enhanced by improved playing surface in sub-freezing conditions. Second, the field heating system extends the use of the field. Less plowing results in less wear on the field surface, which extends its useful life and offsets capital expenditures.
Electric Heating
Electric heating is FIELDS preferred method of field heating. FIELDS employs TruHeat’s proprietary amorphous metal ribbon technology for electric field heating. The distinctive characteristics of amorphous metal ribbons contribute to a remarkable energy efficiency, resulting in potential savings of up to 40% compared to alternative electric heating sources. Hydronic Heating
Hydronic heating uses HPDE and PEX tubing to circulate water heated by high-capacity gas boilers to keep fields heated. It’s widely used in professional sports globally but requires continuous operation during the playing season in northern states. It takes 12-14 days to reach full capacity, which is further out than reliable snowfall forecasts or temperature swings. Operating costs are generally higher due to natural gas consumption during the season.
BENEFITS OF ELECTRIC FIELD HEATING
BENEFITS OF AMORPHOUS METAL RIBBON
Instant Heat Transfer
Compared to hydronic tubes or cable based systems, the flat nature of the amorphous ribbons allow for instant heat transfer resulting in 40% less energy.

Conventional System
Best in Class Heating
Compared to all other electric underground heating systems, the HeatWave system will heat up 3 times faster due to TruHeat’s patented amorphous metal technology. Additionally, the amorphous ribbons start being effective using far less energy.

Increased Durability
Amorphous metal is a solid metallic material, usual an alloy, with a disordered atomic scale structure. Most metals are crystalline in their solid state. The amorphous metal is extremely strong, does not wear out, and has unparalleled heat performance.
