Scope of Work:
The Minnesota Twins and Mortenson selected FIELDS to install the new stadium’s natural grass baseball field including subgrade fill, drainage, irrigation, field heating system, root zone mix, sod, and warning track. The scheduling required close coordination with the stadium’s other trades which occupied parts of the field with four tower cranes. The FIELDS team designed and installed the hydronic heating system. FIELDS selected the sod from a Colorado grower, and installed each sod delivery within 24 hours of harvest using a 30-person crew working 12-hour shifts over four nights. The natural grass surface at Target Field brought outdoor major league baseball back to Minnesota for the first time in 28 years.
