• Location: East Lansing, Michigan

  • Owner: Michigan State University

  • Contractor: FIELDS

  • Completed: 2015

Scope of Work:
Michigan State’s McLane Baseball Stadium and Secchia Softball Stadium received electric field heating systems, providing the baseball and softball programs with earlier spring access on both infields. The MSU baseball team had its first outdoor practice on January 29, 2016. FIELDS installed the new system, developed by Netherlands-headquartered Heating Solutions International (HSI). These MSU installations are the first “heating ribbon” systems at a US college campus. Electrical control panels located behind home plate can be controlled remotely with a PC. The heating allows the grounds staff to prepare the fields for game use in March, resulting in fewer early-season cancellations. The system provides additional drying of the infields. An added benefit of the heating systems is making MSU a more attractive option for recruits.
